Development of Colombo Port City

Colombo Port City is one of the largest and most ambitious development projects in Sri Lanka’s history. It is a planned urban area being built on reclaimed land from the Indian Ocean, adjacent to the Colombo International Financial City (CIFC) and near the Colombo Harbour. The project officially began in 2014 and is a joint venture between the Government of Sri Lanka and China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC). The goal is to turn this area into a modern city with commercial, financial, residential, and recreational spaces. The Port City covers about 269 hectares of reclaimed land. It is designed to be a smart city, with high-tech infrastructure, sustainable design, and international investment appeal.
